RAQUEL Database Management

Summary of ‘The Open Database Company’ Business Plan

The plan is:
to take the “Proof of Concept” RAQUEL Database Management System (= DBMS) currently being developed in Northumbria University’s CEIS School, and use the ‘Open Source’ route to develop it into a commercial product; to earn revenue by providing commercial support for the product and associated databases (= DBs) run on it.

The RAQUEL DBMS uses a more advanced relational language design based on ‘The Third Manifesto’ specification (published by Date and Darwen, who are well-established DB experts) which provides a far higher ratio of functionality to conceptual complexity than current DBMSs.

The DBMS also has an Open Architecture which provides the means for greater efficiency, fitness for purpose, security and interoperability with other DBs.

The commercial operation would emulate the success of ‘Red Hat’, ‘Suse’, etc with Open Source Linux, with the additional business opportunity of being able to provide support and consultancy for DB design and maintenance as well as the DBMS software.
