Developmental Solutions Ltd (DSL) is a spinout company from Durham University which creates products for children aged 0 – 18 months. DSL wishes to establish itself as a North-East company applying the latest scientific knowledge to the creation of innovative products for the nursery market. The company director, Dr. Vincent Reid, has over ten years experience in the field of early development and has secured investment and support from NStar, Cels and the ESRC for a product called the “Sleep Sling”. This invention (patent applied for) aims to reduce colic pain and enhance the formation of sleep patterns.
For parents that are uncomfortable about existing approaches to colic, the Sleep Sling will be a welcome advance. When it is launched (early 2010) it will be a scientifically proven way to ease symptoms, without the need to administer oral treatments. For the Sleep Sling alone, UK sales may be worth £4-5 million.
